For the past three days, four students from Tim Morley’s journalism classes have been attending the National Scholastic Press Association’s national convention in Orlando, Florida. Each hour, the students have their choice of dozens of learning sessions, depending on their interests and their job on staff.
“My favorite session was either the Photoshop one or the satire one,” senior Parker Kandt said.
One of the lasting impressions the students gained has been learning what a big reputation the Nexus has with schools around the country.
“(Our adviser) had a lot of people come up to him and ask questions,” Kandt said.
The editors also gained an appreciation for the magnitude of the work they have yet to do.
“I’m excited though,” senior Sydney Schoonmaker said. “The mods session is really going to help.”
The 2015 edition of the yearbook, the Nexus themed “Me2,” was entered in NSPA’s Best of Show contest, which put Inland Lakes’ yearbook up against other yearbooks of 232 pages or fewer who were also attending the conference. Winners were announced Saturday afternoon and the Nexus placed eighth.
