“I think we played better than we did in Pickford, but we still have things to work on, but we played really well,” Hailey Shank said. “We played well by moving a lot and being patient with our plays.”

In the early game, the junior varsity won 39-27, with Hannah Green leading the scoring with 13 points.

“I think we played well together. On defense, we all came together and helped each other out when it came to double teaming people,” Green said.

“It was one of my off days, but my teammates played really good defense,” Abby Makowski said.

In the varsity game, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-0 lead. They held the lead at the end of the first quarter, 12-4. In the second quarter, the Trojans began to figure out the Bulldog defense and cut the lead to 21-19 at the half.

Central Lake caught fire shooting midway through the third taking the lead on the strength of back to back three pointers. After draining another long shot at 2:47, a Trojan time out found the Bulldogs down 31-27.

“I think that the teams played really good yesterday. Our defense was incredible,” Precious DeLos Santos said.

Following the timeout, the Bulldogs were patient on offense, tying the game at 33 inside of one minute to go in the third. Traveling calls against each side at each end saw the score tied at 33 to start the final quarter.

Central Lake shooting went cold in the fourth, while freshman Mara Clancy put back a couple of offensive rebounds to bring the lead to 42-36 when Inland Lakes called a timeout with 3:30 to go.

“I think we finally learned how to win in the fourth quarter. Our man-to-man defense was the best part because we shut down a lot of the Central Lake girls,” Mara Clancy said. “We showed that working as a team really shows that anything can be done in the fourth quarter.”

Teams traded possessions down the stretch, with Lexi Passino stealing and passing to Cloe Mallory for an easy layup to seal the 46-36 win with 13 seconds left.

Cloe Mallory led with 13 points with Brendley adding 8. Byrne and Mallory each had eight rebounds.
