The varsity lady Bulldogs took an away loss February 4 against the Bellaire Eagles.

The Bulldogs did not have a very good start, trying to puzzle out how to break Bellaire’s 1-3-1 half court trap. Down 8-15 at the end of the first quarter, the girls continued to push to catch up to the Eagles.

“I think we needed to do better on offense and defense” said junior Lexi Passino.

By the end of the first half, the score was 15-27. When the third quarter started, the Bulldogs came out and made basket after basket while holding Bellaire to single shots on offense. With 2:54 left in the third, the score was cut to 28-30 with Inland Lakes with the ball and a chance to tie the score.

But the Eagle took over from there,  clamping down on defense and putting up a lot of points. The third saw the score 30-36.

Bellaire exploded at the beginning of the fourth, opening up a 23-45 lead with 5:30 left in the game.

Katie Byrne led the team with 19 points and 6 rebounds, despite having early foul trouble.

Final score: 40-53.
