Varsity Boys Come Up Short in Onaway

The varsity boys traveled to Onaway Wednesday night as many awaited this rematch for over a month now. Not only did Onaway have a bitter taste in their mouths from the previous meeting in December, but also the Bulldogs were looking for a sweep over the Cardinals.

With a lazy first quarter filled with turnovers and miscommunication, the Bulldogs dug themselves into a 13 point deficit with 2 minutes in the quarter. Having “resiliency” is something Coach Joe Mahoney has been fond of with this team, as they battled back in the 2nd quarter to cut the Onaway lead to 5 at the half.

The Bulldogs fought throughout the game, eventually cutting the Onaway lead to 1, but couldn’t get the extra bucket to take over the game. With 1:30 left in the 4th quarter, Inland Lakes was forced to intentionally foul to stop the clock, ultimately putting the game out of reach. The final score of the rivalry game was 68-58 in favor of Onaway.

The Bulldogs (2-7), looking to steal 2 wins of their 3-game road week play in Pellston on Friday, February 3rd.
