With the varsity boys baseball team having roller coaster ride of a regular season, the Bulldogs knew that they had to be prepared to play their best baseball in Districts.
Earlier in the week Alanson defeated Pellston to earn a spot in the tournament. So the stage was set. Alanson would play Wolverine, and the Inland Lakes Bulldogs would play the Burt Lake Christian Academy. Alanson steam rolled through Wolverine to earn their spot in the championship game. The Bulldogs could not overlook Burt Lake in what could have been their final game of the season.
PeeJay Delos Santos was on the mound for the first game of their Districts. The Bulldogs did indeed overlook Burt Lake, as it was a tie game 7-7 in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bulldogs managed to score 2 runs to give them a close 9-7 victory and earn their spot in the championship game.
For the championship game the Bulldogs had to step their game up to compete with a tough Alanson team. Sophomore ace Ian Clancy took the mound. This game was a close duel of the aces. Ian Clancy and Alanson pitcher Brett Williams competed all seven innings on the mound. The Bulldogs managed to get 2 runs up on the board, and in the final inning Alanson managed to score a run and have runners on first and second with two outs. The final batter flew out, and the varsity boys were able to win their first District championship under second-year head coach Josh Vieau.
The varsity boys baseball team plays on Saturday, June 11, in Newberry for the Regional Title.
