With only one official outdoor practice, the varsity baseball team took the field at Harbor Springs for Opening Day! The Bulldogs, returning 8 of 9 starters, looked to begin their season with a win or two against the Rams of Harbor Springs.

Ian Clancy started for the Bulldogs in game one of the doubleheader and gained several offensive boosts from his team. Junior catcher Ben Schramm blasted his first of many home runs of the season during the 3rd inning of the ballgame, putting the Bulldogs up 2-1. After trading runs the next 3 innings, it was the eventually a 6th inning rally that pushed the Bulldogs into an 8-6 win!

“I’m happy with the way we hit the ball and made little to no errors during the game. Hopefully we can continue to see the ball offensively like we did and keep our intensity up throughout the season!” junior Peejay Delos Santos said following the win against the Rams.

During the nightcap of Wednesday’s outing, Ben Schramm took the mound and many utility players saw time throughout the game. The Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but the Bulldogs battled back to make it a 3-2 game going into the 4th inning. With many opportunities to take the tie, or even the lead, the Bulldogs ended with a 4-2 loss to end the doubleheader.

The boys look to sharpen up some mistakes made during their first game before they take the field against Ellsworth on Monday, April 10.
