On February 16 Mancelona came to play Inland Lakes girls.
The Bulldogs started out in a full court man-to-man press. Most of the early baskets in the first quarter were scored off steals, leaving the score at 12-4 Inland Lakes.
In the second quarter the girls kept up their man-to-man defense. The girls were putting up a lot of shots, but they weren’t falling. Toward the end of the second quarter Inland Lakes’ shots started falling. The girls were in complete control of the game, entering half time with a 23-11 lead.
After half time the varsity girls laid off of the full court man-to-man, switching into a 3-2 half court trap. With the pressure on the Ironmen, they had a lot of turn overs. Inland Lakes worked really well in the third quarter, allowing their opponent to score only five points. Inland Lakes held the lead at 33-16.
As the fourth quarter came around, the girls were still on fire, putting up shots and making their layups and rebounding really well at both ends of the floor. The girls defense held Macelona to nine points in the final quarter, with Inland Lakes scoring ten points, leaving the final score 44-25.
Vanessa Wandrie led the team with 13 points, while Alexis Passino added 11 and Katie Byrne had 10.
With just four games left, Districts is just around the corner. Thursday, they host Forest Area.
