Teacher Feature: John Hulbert

In his position as the College and Career Readiness Coach, Mr. John Hulbert helps lots of students, mainly juniors and seniors, look to the future. He assists them with things like filling out applications for college, figuring out financial aid, and helping them become a better person. Check out fun facts about Mr. Hulbert.

1.) What always makes you laugh?

“Jared Scott and his Ramen noodles. My cousins always get me rolling. Kevin Hart is a good back up.”

2.) What is the happiest time of your life?

“The happiest times of my life include a lot of sporting events.  Attending the Final Four twice in the same year for basketball and football.  For basketball it was my senior year of college, and for football is was not even six months after graduation.  Receiving my acceptance letter to Michigan State.  Being in attendance for Little Giants and Rocket at Spartan Stadium.  Being in attendance at the Big House for the blocked punt returned for a touchdown.  Graduating from MSU.”  

3.) What message would you put in a fortune cookie?

“If you work hard you can play harder.”

4.) Describe the moment when you had to take a leap of faith.  

“I take ’em everyday. I wing it way too much.”  

5.) What is the meaning of your name?

“I am named after my dad, and he was named after John and Matthew from the Bible.”

6.) What would you like to be known for?

“I would like to be known for leaving a good impact wherever I go.”

7.) What is the best thing that happened to you in 2015?

“See Number 2  – graduating from MSU. It was a goal I had been working for since I had visited campus when I was lil’ dude.”

8.) What three things do you put in your sandwiches?

“Cheese, mustard and mayo.”

9.) Would you rather be invisible or be able to read minds?

“I’d rather be able to read minds right now, but I’d need an on and off switch on that.”

10.) What is at the top of your bucket list?

“See a game at every basketball and football stadium in the Big 10, and at other major sporting arenas.”
