New Level for Varsity Girls

Inland Lakes traveled to play Pellston for the second time this season on January 26. The varsity won their game 60-17 against the Hornets.

In the first quarter the girls struggled to get their first bucket against Pellston. The first points scored in the game were two free throws made by Katie Byrne. Once she made those, the buckets kept dropping in. The girls were hot on their feet, limiting Pellston from getting into the paint. By the end of the quarter the score was 15-4.

In the following quarter the girls played their worst quarter by letting the Hornets score 7 points. The girls were having trouble setting up their offense and running through their plays. The girls were getting beaten up tonight and several players were injured. They ended the half up 30-11.

The girls came into the third quarter strong and not giving in. Inland Lakes scored 14 points while Pellston scored 2 points. The varsity continued strong rebounding. Overall, the girls had 32 rebounds and 22 steals in the game. Vanessa Wandrie led the team with 9 rebounds while Katie Byrne, Mara Clancy and Hailey Shank all had 4. The girls ended the third quarter up 44- 13.

In the final quarter the Bulldogs kept the momentum going by adding 16 points. In the last quarter the girls made a lot of back door passes and cuts, tearing apart the Pellston 2-3 zone defense. The final score of the game was 60-13.

The final score of the game was 60-13. They are now 10-4 on the season, 9-2 in the conference.

The junior varsity girls also beat Pellston 46-32.

The girls next game is Thursday, February 2 at home against Mancelona
