Lady bulldogs take down Mancelona in District preview

On Feb. 25 the varsity girls basketball team played Mancelona at home. The Bulldogs won by 13 points with a final score of 45-32. The Lady Bulldogs will play Mancelona again on Monday, Mar. 4 in the first round of Districts.

There was not a lot of scoring going on in the first quarter for either team, as the Bulldogs were only ahead by 7. Ending the first quarter, the score was only 11-4. The Bulldogs were working well and communicated properly to maintain a lead.

During the second quarter, they felt like they were not working as well as they did in the first quarter. They managed to work through it and stay ahead of Mancelona. “I don’t think we played as a team, and we were playing slow,” freshman Emily VanDaele said.

Going into the second half of the game the Bulldogs felt like they had a chance at winning. They started to play like they were the first quarter of the game. “I think that we played well, but we came out flat,” freshman Alyssa Burn said.

The team went 20 for 43 for field goals, Monthei went 4 for 7, 57%, Clancy went 5 for 10, 50%.

The lady Bulldogs fought to the end and ended with a score of 45-32. “I think we did well because the stats were spread out pretty good,” Senior Precious Delos Santos said.

Mara Clancy lead the team with 12 points, following behind her was Tyra Fletcher who scored 9. Delos Santos lead with 5 assists following her was Kelsey VanDaele and Mara Clancy with 4.

The team hopes to win again on Monday against Mancelona for the first round of districts, hopefully then moving on to district finals.
