JV Struggles At Onaway

The junior varsity girls traveled to Onaway on Thursday to play the Cardinals, but the Cardinals came out with the win.

The Bulldogs started in their tried-and-true one-one-three zone, but Onaway’s Lauren Welklin made four three’s in the first half, forcing Bulldogs to go to a box-and-one in the third quarter.

By the end of the second quarter, the score was 28-22, with the Cardinals leading.

Bulldogs came out in the second half ready to fight back, concentrating on playing tough defense and pressuring the ball up top. Onaway started to pulled away, as the Bulldogs struggled with the unfamiliar defense. Cardinals scored 17 points in the third quarter, while the girls struggled with just 5 points in the period.

During the fourth quarter the Bulldogs switched to a straight man-to-man defense the Cardinals only scored 6 in the fourth quarter.

Final score 39-51.
