On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Junior Varsity volleyball team played in their home invitational tournament and took it all.
The girls started their morning off with a great game against Cheboygan. After spending the whole morning in the middle school gym and winning all 6 games, the whole team was exhausted. Taking a quick break for three games, the girls were ready to play again. Getting back into it, Emily VanDaele pulled the team together by playing her music.
“We all sing the song, One Time by Justin Bieber in practice,” VanDaele said. “So I chose that because we all sing together and it gets everyone involved.”
Going into bracket play, the girls were confident that they could come out with a first or second place win.
The team came out strong and was one of the only teams to win all games during pool play. Moving into bracket play, the teams’ confidence was higher than usual during their game against Onaway. They were underestimating their opponents. In order for the team to win, they would need to win the last two matches during the Onaway game due to a loss in the first match. But their hopes went down as the game went on, and came out with a loss against Onaway.
“We knew the competition was going to be tough, even though we lost, we managed to keep it up,” Said outside hitter, Olivia Monthei.
The team managed to pull it together and won all of the games after their loss against Onaway. This allowed for the team to make it to the final game against Boyne City. With all of the excitement, the Bulldogs were pumped and ready to take it all at their first home tournament. With one final serve from Boyne City, all it took was a pass, and the ball went over with a hit that caused the ball to go out. With that, the JV Bulldogs finished strong and took home the first place trophy.
