On Saturday, November 5, the girls cross country team placed eighth out of twenty-seven teams at the State finals. Last year the girls team placed twenty-first.

Hailey Shank was the first runner to medal at States from Inland Lakes, making her the first All-State female runner in program history.

Today was a special day.

“This is the highest team finish in program history,” girls coach Sarah Furman said.  “The course was wet, soft, and soggy, and therefore it was not the type of conditions that would set the girls up for running PRs.”

The teams’ season-long rivals, Harbor Springs, did very well. Their boys team finished second and number one runner Jeremy Kloss finished second in the state, while the girls team finished in third.

“Today was a special day,” Furman said. “But the process and what this team did to get here was just as special.”

There was 237 girls and 246 guys in the Division 4 races.
