Goosebumps will make all of your fears from the frightening childhood series come to life! This movie combines the spine chilling tales of the hit franchise and the enjoyable comedy of Jack Black.
Throughout the movie you see dozens of classic monsters from Stine’s books, such as the Scarecrow that Walks at Night, the Werewolf of Fever Swamp, and of course Slappy, the living dummy! When Zach (Dylan Minnette) unleashes these monsters, it is up to him and his friends to stop them from terrorizing the town of Madison, Delaware.
Even with a fairly generic plot, the movie still seems to keep you entertained with a balanced pace of comedy, action, and a little bit of both. With plenty of humor for both kids and adults alike, this movie will keep you making laughing with friends about it, long after you leave the theater.
Having said that, the comedy and special effects are really the only thing this movie has going for it. But really, what do you expect from a films focused on a younger audience. You do not really grow attached to any of the characters, nor do you feel that they were ever in any real danger. So there is not really any drama in this film, which can be a positive or a negative depending on how you want to look at it.
This movie will bring back that sense of unnerving nostalgia you had reading these books books when you were a child. It is entertaining, to say the least. We give this movie a spooky 3.5 out of 5 stars.
