First Meet Jitters 

The girls cross team takes off during the race at East Jordan on Aug. 30.

Inland lakes cross country team traveled to East Jordan for the first 5k of the season. The girls placed 4th out of 8 teams while the guys finished in 11th out of 12 teams. The following schools who attended the meet was Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, Johannesburg-Lewiston, Pellston, Grayling, Gaylord Saint Mary’s, Boyne City, East Jordan, Mancelona, Kalkaska, Wolverine, Boyne Falls and Alba.

“The goal today was to finish a 5k, for more than half of the team this was their first full 5k race,” Brandon Beltz said. “They felt the race out and their inexperience showed today, there is no doubt in my mind the rate of improvement for these will boys is going to exceptional.”

“We have a lot of work to do. Their pacing was erratic, and they looked nervous,” coach Sarah Furman said.

Next meet is Saturday, Sept. 9, in Charlevoix at 9 am at the high school.
