Friday night, May 5, the East Jordan Red Devils traveled over to cooperation park to take on our lady bulldogs for the second time this season. This JV softball program that Rich Michael has run this season has been doing incredibly well. As a team, they have a .342 batting average, 107 hits, 148 runs, 16 doubles, 12 triples, and 5 home runs.
With two weeks left in the season, these girls hope to go out and handle the rest of their games as they’ve been doing all season.
“I believe if we keep our heads straight and our minds where they need to be, we can come out first in the conference this season,” short stop Savannah Spence said.
As the girls went head to head with East Jordan, both games were too close for comfort. Last time Inland Lakes faced them, they had one freshman team and one sophomore team. This time, they only brought over their sophomore team which caught everyone off guard. Last minute changes were put into action as our girls knew that they were in for two tough games.
During the first game, our girls weren’t hitting as well as they hoped. Their bats were quiet and not much was happening besides three outs in a row by East Jordan’s short stop. The girls were struggling on offense and had a few bad innings on defense. Balls getting over thrown, and pop flies that should have been caught, weren’t.
During the bottom of the last inning girls were down by two runs. Tyra Fletcher hit in the tying run. The bulldogs managed to end with a walk off run, due to Sheldon Vizina’s outfield hit.
