On January, 25 the varsity girls had a home game against Pellston. The last time the girls played Pellston they lost by 12 points and struggled through most of the game. Since the last time the bulldogs played the hornets, they had put in a ton of work into their practices and found new strategies and have come together as a team. In result the varsity girls took the win and ended the game 48-20 Bulldogs.
The girls have been waiting to play Pellston again, with all of the game cancellations and the load up on practices they needed a change-up. Both teams came out fired up in the first quarter. Inland Lakes had a hard time setting up plays and communicating with all of noise coming from the stands. Pellston managed to get the first bucket of the night. The girls started in there one-three-one zone and left Pellston puzzled and they struggle to break it through out the night. As the game went on the better the girls defence improved. Both teams struggled to add points to the board leaving Inland Lakes in the lead 11-4.
Heading into the second quarter the girls weren’t impressed with the score and came out with hot feet on defense and slowly started to out rebound the hornets and ending the night with 31 rebounds. The top rebounder’s of the night was Hailey Shank with 7 and Sydney Depauw and Kelsey Van Daele had 5 each. The Bulldogs had a great second quarter by only letting pellston score one basket while the lady bulldogs scored five buckets. At the end of the first half the final score was 22-6 Inland Lakes.
Coming into the third quarter all fresh and relaxed the girls kept banging around down low in the paint. In the beginning of the quarter Sydney had set a beautiful pick for one of the guards up top until, one of pellston’s guards Billie Lalonde ran into Sydney and had a hard fall to the ground. Which took Billie out of the game. The third quarter was the varsity girl’s best quarter. The bulldogs were moving very well on the offensive side of the court and added eighteen points to the board and only letting pellston add six. Ending the third quarter 39-12 Bulldogs.
Starting the fourth quarter the girls back down from there one-three-one zone and set up in there two-three zone defence. Next coach Pat Clancy throws in the second line of girls and they ended the off strong and didn’t let pellston throw up many points. The top scores of the night was Hailey with 12 points, Mara Clancy with 11 points, and with Sydney and Lexi Brendly with 6 each. The bulldogs crushed the hornets and ending the game at 48-20 bulldogs.
“It was a great team win,” coach Clancy said. “We are getting everyone minutes and that helps us be a better team.”
Next game is home against Central Lake Jan. 29.
