On Wednesday, February 3, Inland Lakes hosted Gaylord St. Mary’s. Both the junior varsity and varsity came out with wins.
The JV boys team came into the game on a 6 game win streak. Earlier in the season the boys lost to Gaylord 34-26. This was also the first game the team had freshman Luke Mayer back on the court. Mayer lead the team in scoring with 14 points coming off the bench.
” I thought Luke did well, he was agressive, and he adjusted well to game situations.” JV coach Lee Nash said.
The varsity Bulldogs came into Thursday’s conference matchup on a two game win streak, looking to extend their win streak to 3, which they have not done since before Christmas break.
The Bulldogs came to play in the first half, outscoring GSM 35-15 on Ryan Howery’s 8 first half points. In the third quarter, the varsity came out flat, allowing GSM to put in 10 while only scoring 7.
Overcoming some adversity from the third quarter, the boys ended the game strong to conclude the game with a final score of 59-36.
The twin towers, seniors Ryan Howery and Mark Hayner, had huge games for the Bulldogs, Ryan with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Mark with 6 points and some big rebounds. Despite not shooting as well as they usually do, the backcourt trio of Andrew Dufek, Ian Clancy, and Mike O’Connor had 9 points, 12 points and 12 points, respectively.
