Band travels to T.C. marching exhibition

The 7-12 marching band made the trip to Traverse City on Monday for their annual marching exhibition. Bands from all over northern Michigan met at Thurlby Field to perform their halftime show for the other bands in attendance and judges who help critique the show to help make improvements to the show. These bands include Traverse City Central and West, Harbor Springs, and Petoskey.

The band was set to go on at 6:20 p.m., but that is not how it turned out. The band, dealing with problems trying to get a bus, did not leave the school until around 4 o’clock. The band pulled into the stadium’s parking lot with about 10 minutes before their performance, still having to get dressed and warmed up for the performance. Thankfully, officials moved the band back one spot to give them a little bit of time.

This year’s marching show theme was “Movie Themes” which included “All-Star” by Smashmouth from the hit Dreamworks movie Shrek, “Everything is Awesome” by Tegan and Sara from The Lego Movie, and finally “Shout” by the Isley Brothers from National Lampoon’s Animal House.

Some of the feedback that was given to the band:

  • Nice Drum Major salute – very clever
  • Star formation, very appropriate for the tune.
  • Nice Job soloist (Elizabeth Wilson played her trumpet solo in Shout)
  • Visually I don’t see any issues
  • Use this powerful sound in the earlier songs too.
  • Overall I really enjoyed your performance today.
