On Feb. 7th Inland Lakes traveled to Central Lake for a conference game, hoping that it will be a close game. At the end of the night it was Central Lake who wanted it more and took the win with a score of 58-36.
The girls started the first quarter stronger than normal but not strong enough. The girls were doing well in the paint for rebounds on both ends of the courts. The team had a total of 23 rebounds. The top rebounders of the game was, Hailey Shank with 9 and Tyra Fletcher with 5. The girls started in their one-three-one zone defence and Central Lake struggle to get past it, but at times they would adjust their offence for it through out the game. Ending the first quarter Central Lake leads 13-7.
Starting the second quarter the girls start to shoot more and take more chances on the offensive side of the court. The girls run different plays and try to switch things up and to keep trying to get open. The top scorers of the night was Lexi Brendly with 12 points, Precious Delos Santos with 7 points and Hailey with 6 points. Ending the first half Trojans still in the lead 25-18.
Moving into the second half the bulldogs try to settle down. The girls let the crowd get to them and lost control on defense and racked up the fouls. Two bulldogs fouled out of the game, Precious and Sydney DePauw. Tyra and Lexi both had 3 blocks each and protected the paint very well during the game. Later in the quarter the bulldogs go back and forth from a zone defence to a man to man defence. Finishing the quarter Trojans still in the lead 36-27.
Heading into the last quarter of the night the girls try to relieve pressure up top for point guard Lexi by setting more picks and rolling towards the basket. The girls have a hard time pushing the ball up the court the last half and finding an open shot and finding a body down low when rebounding. With a game the night before the girls were exhausted by the end of the night and Central Lake took the win 58-36
Next game is Thursday Feb. 8th home against Gaylord St. Mary’s.
