On Oct. 10 the cross country team traveled to Mancelona for the Ski Valley Conference championship. The girls team went into this meet knowing they had a reputation to uphold, the team had taken first in the SVC meet three years in a row and wanted to bring home a fourth title.
“The course was really hilly, but throughout the race, we could see each other,” junior Lauren Vizina said. “So we were able to cheer each other on and I thought that was really cool.”
The course was tough and there was tough competition, but the girls raced well earning them a fourth consecutive SVC title.
“The girls came here to win today, and everyone had a part to play for us to win,” said coach Sarah Furman. “The girls were aggressive out there, but not reckless with their pacing. The course weaved back and forth where they could see each other, and they were shouting for each other as the race unfolded. I am very proud of how well they supported each other. This is our fourth Ski Valley title in a row.”
